Who: The Tour de Blue is a bicycle ride that benefits the Urology Health Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing prostate cancer screenings free of charge to men in Alabama who cannot afford the tests. The ride is presented by Urology Centers of Alabama and Birmingham Bicycle Company, and is part of the Alabama Backroads Century Series.
What: There will be several exciting cycling routes offered for the 2015 Tour de Blue, with four ride options (107, 76, 48 & 13 miles). The terrain is rolling, and for the three longer distance rides, there are several challenging climbs. There are periodic rest stops on all of
the routes that are well stocked with food and drinks. There is full SAG
support for all of the riders. Cost is $50 (with discounts for early
registration on Active.com) for the three longer rides, and $25 for
the 13-mile short option. The cost includes an event t-shirt and lunch provided by Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q.
We are also offering a newly designed Tour de Blue jersey for purchase. This jersey, made by Hincapie, is of excellent quality and is a great way to show your support for the Tour de Blue. For more details, including sizing information, please see the description on Active.com.
When: The 2015 Edition of the Tour de Blue will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015. Registration will open at 6:30 AM. The 107, 76 & 48 mile riders will start at 8 AM. The 13-mile riders will start at 8:30 AM. Riders are asked to park at the Red Diamond Corporate Headquarters, which has two large parking lots that can accommodate a large number of cars.
Where: The starting venue for the Tour de Blue will be the Red Diamond Corporate Headquarters at 400 Park Ave., Moody, Alabama 35004 (just outside Birmingham). Red Diamond is a 106-year-old family-owned coffee, tea, and foodservice company. The corporate office overlooks a gorgeous lake and is located on 65 acres with the Coffee/Tea Manufacturing and Foodservice Distribution Centers. (map)
Why: The goal of the Tour de Blue bicycle ride is to raise funds to help provide free prostate cancer screenings to the poorest communities in the State of Alabama, and to increase awareness of the importance of early testing and treatment of prostate cancer. Since 2007, the Urology Health Foundation has screened thousands of men for prostate cancer for free in many Alabama counties. If an abnormality is found and the patient is unable to afford treatment, the Urology Health Foundation will assist in helping to find treatment at no cost to the patient.
How you can help: Please come out and ride the Tour de Blue. The courses are scenic, and the rest stops are staffed with happy folks eager to help you enjoy your day of cycling. Your contribution helps those who are at the greatest risk of developing prostate cancer. Pre-registration is now available at Active.com with discounts for early registration. If you can't ride but want to donate to the Urology Health Foundation, please go to our Donate Page and give any amount you choose. Also, please consider volunteering your time; you can sign up for one of the volunteer positions by logging onto VolunteerSpot or by contacting Jennie Alley, our Volunteer Coordinator, at email@example.com or 205-835-8020 (cell).
